The Porcupine Prospectors and Developers Association (PPDA) is hosting the Northeastern Ontario Mines and Minerals Symposium (NEOMMS) October 1st-3rd, 2024 at the Ramada Inn in Timmins, Ontario.
This year’s theme will be “Exploring the Future” and includes:
Oct 1st- Mineral Exploration Research Center (MERC) Short Course.
This one-day short course will highlight new results from Laurentian University’s Metal Earth program where in excess of 1,000km of reflection seismic, magnetotelluric and gravity surveys have provided some of the highest resolution imaging across transects with differing mineral endowment in granite-greenstone terranes across the Superior Province. These presentations will include large-scale crustal architecture and metallogenic comparisons of endowed versus less endowed areas and focused studies on deposits, structural and geochemical controls. The contributions will emphasize the integration of field and laboratory geological, geochemical and geophysical studies providing new insights into the geological and metallogenic framework of endowed terranes, and the architecture of the structural conduits controlling the upward migration of melts and mineralizing hydrothermal fluids. It will also include presentations on Mineral Potential and Mapping Techniques using AI to help focus on mineral exploration.
This course will be offered in-person and virtually.
Oct 2nd-3rd- Technical Sessions and Trade Show
Technical sessions will be occurring both days with a variety of geological technical talks on various projects in the northeast as well as activity updates from the Resident Geologist’s Office and mapping updates from the Ontario Geological Survey. The agenda will be posted as talks are confirmed.
The Trade Show will be open to the public and will showcase support industries for exploration, government services, and much more!
Oct 2nd- Gala Dinner
Join us for our Gala Dinner with our Keynote Speaker, Kristan Straub, P. Geo. Kristan is the Chief Executive Officer of Wyloo Canada and has more than 25 years of experience in the mining industry, having held various positions globally in mineral exploration, operations and management. Most recently, he served as a member of Glencore Nickel’s executive team as Vice President of Exploration, following his role as President of Koniambo Nickel SAS, New Caledonia. As Vice President of Glencore’s Raglan Mine in Nunavik (2014-2018) he worked as a member of the Raglan Committee, and also served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the Mining Association of Canada. Kristan is a proud band member of Henvey Inlet and French River No.13. Kristan holds a B.Sc in Geology from
Laurentian University.
Oct 3rd- Informal Panel Discussion
The PPDA is hosting an Informal Panel Discussion “Exploring the Future- Challenges and Opportunities” to be held in the afternoon of Oct 3rd. This will be a diverse panel representing various sectors of mining and geology, including industry, government, and education. The topics to be discussed include the geoscience skills gap, shifting demands in commodities, and community engagement. Access to this event is included with delegate registration.
