Boats, Bikes, Mics and Lights” will be hosted in English and French and will
– bring Northern communities together for a day of fun and socializing,
– act as a recruitment tool for our police forces,
– raise awareness and educate the public on various safety topics, and
– funds raised from the barbecues will go to the Alzheimer Society Cochrane-Temiskaming.
A number of activities will have an educational component attached to them, i.e. children’s bicycle parade will have demonstrations on bicycle and road safety; a boat challenge on Porcupine Lake will have a water and boat safety component, etc. Activities are being planned throughout the day for all ages to enjoy. We are working with the Royal Canadian Armed Forces (RCAF) for a flyby demonstration over Porcupine Lake. This will not be confirmed until one week prior to the event due to operational requirements.
The day will end with a performance by the OPP Chorus. The Chorus has been singing at special events and memorials in Ottawa and Toronto for the past twenty-seven years and this will be their first time performing in Timmins/Northern Ontario. The OPP Chorus is made up of twenty-seven retired police officers and civilians.
There will be vendors and various information tables/booths hosted by charities and non-profit organizations.
